CAMBRIDGE CERTIFICATE IN ADVANCED ENGLSIH (CAE) Preparatory Course
CAE offers an advanced qualification for those wishing to use English in their study or at work. It assesses English language ability at ALTE level 4. It is widely recognized by British universities as fulfilling English language entrance requirements.

KET CONTENT: AN OVERVIEW
Paper 1 (Reading) – 1 hour 15 minutes
Candidates are expected to be able to read and understand texts taken from magazines, newspapers, leaflets, etc. They should demonstrate a variety of reading skills including skimming, scanning, deduction of meaning from context and selection of relevant information to complete the given task.

Paper 2 (Writing) – 2 hour
Candidates are expected to complete writing tasks in response to the stimuli provided (input text and task instructions). The input texts are taken from articles, leaflets, notices, formal and informal letters, etc. Both audience and purpose are made clear in the task instructions.

Paper 3 (English in Use) – 1 hour 30 minutes
Candidates are expected to be able to demonstrate the ability to apply their knowledge of the language system by completing tasks based on authentic passages. They must complete six tasks with a total of eighty items.

Paper 4 (Listening) – 45 minutes
Candidates are expected to understand each text as a whole, gain detailed understanding and appreciate gist and the attitude of the speaker. They must also be able to identify and interpret the context. Texts take the form of announcements, speeches, radio broadcasts, interviews, etc.

Paper 5 (Speaking) – 15 minutes
The Speaking paper is conducted by two examiners with a pair of candidates. The candidates must be able to demonstrate a range of oral skills: interactional, social, transactional, negotiation and collaboration.

Lesson Planning:
In class: This course is taught systematically and sequentially. It reviews those topics which will be included in the test such as English reading, writing, grammar, comprehension, listening and speaking. Exam-taking skills will also be taught in order for students to enhance their performance in the exam.

Quizzes and Dictations: In order to ensure the students are capable of applying their knowledge, students will have small quizzes or dictations in every class.

Examination: There will be two mock examinations throughout the course.
