KEY ENGLISH TEST (KET) Preparatory Course
Key English Test (KET) offers a basic
qualification in English targeting students from age of 11 to 13.
The assessment aims of KET and its syllabus are designed to ensure
that the test reflects the use of language in real life. It also
represents a first step for those wishing to progress towards Cambridge
Level Two, the Preliminary English Test (PET) and the rest of the
Cambridge ESOL examinations such as First Certificate in English
(FCE), Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) and Certificate of
Proficiency in English (CPE).

KET
CONTENT: AN OVERVIEW
Paper
1 (Reading/ Writing) – 1 hour 10 minutes
KET assesses the candidates’ ability to understand the meaning
of written English at word, phrase, sentence, paragraph and whole
text level. It also assesses their ability to produce simple written
English, ranging from one-word answers to short pieces of continuous
text.
Paper
2 (Listening) – 30 minutes
KET assesses
the candidates’ ability to understand dialogues and monologues in
both informal and neutral settings on a range of everyday topics.
Paper
3 (Speaking) – 8-10 minutes
KET assesses
the candidates’ ability to answer and ask questions about themselves
and about factual non-personal information.
Lesson
Planning:
In class: This course is taught systematically
and sequentially. It reviews those topics which will be included
in the test such as English reading, writing, grammar, comprehension,
listening and speaking. Exam-taking skills will also be taught in
order for students to enhance their performance in the exam.
Quizzes
and Dictations: In
order to ensure the students are capable of applying their knowledge,
students will have small quizzes or dictations in every class.
Examination:
There will be two mock examinations throughout the
course.
