Phonics Certificate Course
The ultimate goal of reading is good comprehension. But in order for your child to understand what he reads, he must be able to do it quickly and automatically, without stumbling over words. Phonics facilitates that process. With lots of practice sounding out words, he learns to read more fluently. And it definitely enhances his ability in spelling and pronunciation as well.

Objective:
This course takes children through the process of learning the relationship between sounds and letters to reading and spelling words, sentences, and stories for meaning.

Lesson Planning:
In class: This course is taught systematically and sequentially. Teachers give children plenty of practice before moving on. Students will read short, easy words or books, containing the particular letter sounds or words they are working on. The teacher will give her lots of opportunities to read aloud, and will guide and correct her as she reads. There will also be some writing, to reinforce the sound-print connection.

Quizzes and Dictations: In order to ensure the students are capable of applying their knowledge, students will have small quizzes or dictations in every class.

Examination: There will be two examinations throughout the course.

Certificate: Students are required to maintain a minimum of 95% attendance. Attendance below 95% may be made up by completing make-up classes. Students must pass the two examinations in order to obtain the certificate.
